Football Recap: Winona Takes a Loss

Winona extended their losing streak to six on Friday, dropping them down to 1-6. They were beaten by the Troup Tigers 60-0. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 1080th, while the Tigers are ranked 217th).

As for Troup, their win was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-0. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by 36 points or more this season.

Leading Troup to victory were Josh Childress and Brett Wells. Childress threw for 296 yards and three TDs while completing 81% of his passes, while Wells rushed for 158 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 14 carries. The dominant performance also gave Childress a new career-high in rushing yards (103).

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Winona will face off against rival Buffalo at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Troup is set to challenge their familiar foe New Diana at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
