Football Game Preview: Wetumka Chieftains vs. Okeene Whippets + Official Tickets

The Wetumka Chieftains will take on the Okeene Whippets at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Wetumka took a loss when they played away from home two weeks ago, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They skirted past Strother 36-34. Considering the Chieftains' offense had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Dwayne Lowe produced another solid effort rushing for 107 yards and three scores on only 15 carries. He has become a key player for Wetumka: the team is 4-2 when he posts at least 100 rushing yards, but 1-3 otherwise.

Meanwhile, Okeene had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 39.7 points) and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They claimed a resounding 63-14 victory over the Red Devils. The Whippets' offense checked out after the first half but had enough points banked to take the game anyway.

The win got Wetumka back to even at 5-5. As for Okeene, their victory bumped their record up to 9-1.
