Baseball Game Preview: Upland Highlanders/Scots vs. Riverside Prep Silver Knights

The Upland Highlanders/Scots will take on the Riverside Prep Silver Knights at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Upland is coming into the contest on a five-game losing streak.

Upland fell victim to Glendora and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They fell just short of the Tartans by a score of 2-0.

Dylan Webb was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in March of 2024.

On the hitting side, Upland saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Elliot Cresap, who went 1-for-3 with one double. That double marked the first that Cresap hit this season.

Meanwhile, Riverside Prep entered their matchup against Village Christian on Tuesday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. Riverside Prep took a 6-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of Village Christian. Having soared to a lofty 14 runs in the game before, the Silver Knights couldn't push the score so high this time.

Riverside Prep's loss dropped their record down to 7-3. As for Upland, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-5.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Upland has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Riverside Prep struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Upland came out on top in a nail-biter against Riverside Prep when the teams last played back in February of 2024, sneaking past 5-3. Does Upland have another victory up their sleeve, or will Riverside Prep turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
