Meanwhile, Wendell got the win against Firth on Monday by a conclusive 21-2. The Trojans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by eight runs or more this season.
Like Buhl, Wendell also got a great game from a two-way player: Macie Bird. Throwing, Bird struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Breanna Comstock tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Bird has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. At the plate, Bird scored two runs and stole five bases while going 2-for-4, while Comstock scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
In other batting news, Wendell got a massive performance out of Nayeli Juarez, who scored three runs while going 2-for-3. Audra Bunn was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
Wendell kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in seven consecutive games.
Wendell is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.0 runs over those games. As for Buhl, the win got them back to even at 5-5.
Everything went Buhl's way against Wendell in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Buhl made off with a 16-6 victory. Do the Indians have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Trojans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
