The Southwest Eagles will square off against TERRA Environmental at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
TERRA Environmental will challenge a team with plenty of momentum: Southwest extended their winning streak to four on Friday. The Eagles blew past Miami 18-3.
Tatiana Perez was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
In other batting news, Ami Casteleiro was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. That home run was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Shantell Valle, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Southwest lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, TERRA Environmental won against Coral Gables on Thursday with 20 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Friday. TERRA Environmental put the hurt on Mater Academy Charter with a sharp 20-3 win. TERRA Environmental hasn't had any issues with Mater Academy Charter recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
TERRA Environmental got a massive performance out of Aryanna Hussain, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. The team also got some help courtesy of Gianna Mantaras, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
Southwest pushed their record up to 6-3 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for TERRA Environmental, their win bumped their record up to 8-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Southwest has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 10.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like TERRA Environmental struggles in that department as they've been averaging 11 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
