Football Recap: Sandpoint Piles Up the Points Against Pocatello

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Sandpoint). They claimed a resounding 56-15 victory over the Pocatello Thunder. The team's explosion on offense also rewarded the Bulldogs with their most commanding win of the season.

Braden Buckhout was his usual excellent self, throwing for 236 yards and four TDs while completing 82.4% of his passes. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in passer rating (162.4). A healthy portion of Buckhout's aerial production (94 yards to be exact) went to Maverick Gomez.

Sandpoint was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 233 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 212 rushing yards in four consecutive matchups.

Sandpoint didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Devin McEnaney and Lucas Garrison. McEnaney also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with ten. Sandpoint got some further help from Darrin Flanigan: he forced two fumbles and made five total tackles (3.0 for loss).

Sandpoint's win bumped their record up to 5-0. As for Pocatello, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-3.

Coming up, Sandpoint will head out on the road to challenge Coeur d'Alene at 7:00 p.m. on the 26th. As for Pocatello, they will host Highland at 7:00 p.m. on the 26th.
