Basketball Recap: Lubbock-Cooper Takes a Loss

Lubbock-Cooper was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They came up short against the Monterey Plainsmen, falling 70-49. The Pirates were probably out for revenge after losing 87-53 to them when the teams met back in January of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Leading Monterey to victory were Aaliyah Chavez and Johnson Ari. Chavez dropped a double-double on 37 points and 11 boards, while Ari dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten boards. The contest was Chavez's 26th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Khloei Serna, who posted eight points.

Lubbock-Cooper's defeat dropped their record down to 7-11. As for Monterey, their victory bumped their record up to 23-4.

Lubbock-Cooper will challenge Amarillo at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. Amarillo knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past four games -- so hopefully Lubbock-Cooper likes a good challenge. As for Monterey, they will face off against Palo Duro at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Monterey's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five matches.
