Preview: Pottsville Crimson Tide vs. Jim Thorpe Olympians
Pottsville is 9-1 against Jim Thorpe since January of 2020, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Pottsville Crimson Tide will be playing at home against the Jim Thorpe Olympians at 7:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Pottsville has five straight wins, Jim Thorpe has seven straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Even though Tamaqua scored an imposing 60 points on Saturday, Pottsville still came out on top. Pottsville took their matchup against Tamaqua 68-60. The score was all tied up 34-34 at the break, but Pottsville was the better team in the second half.
Pottsville's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kole Becker led the charge by scoring 16 points. That's the first time this season that Becker scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Christian Alvarez, who scored 17 points.
Jim Thorpe suffered their biggest defeat since December 20, 2023 on Thursday. They suffered a rough 73-51 defeat at the hands of Lehighton. While losing is never fun, Jim Thorpe can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 674th, while Lehighton is ranked 279th).
Pottsville has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. As for Jim Thorpe, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-16.
Pottsville took their win against Jim Thorpe when the teams last played back in December of 2023 by a conclusive 63-37. Does Pottsville have another victory up their sleeve, or will Jim Thorpe turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
