Football Recap: Laney Wins Going Away Against Topsail

Laney won the last time they faced Topsail and things went their way on Friday too. The Buccaneers strolled past the Pirates with points to spare, taking the game 27-9. That looming 27-9 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Buccaneers yet this season.

Ryan Gallagher looked great while leading his team to the win, throwing for 166 yards and a pair of TDs while completing 79.2% of his passes. Laney also got a significant boost from Joquin Dingle, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 81 yards.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Laney proved: they limited Topsail to a paltry 2.5 yards per carry. The team can thank Jacob McPherson for the heroic effort on defense: he. Laney didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 6.2.

Laney's defense also made the game a nightmare for the opposing QB, racking up seven sacks. Topsail's QB won't forget Kwmane Allen anytime soon given he sacked him twice. Preston Hall was another major factor on D, picking up a sack, making four total tackles (3.0 for loss), and defending two passes.

Laney has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a massive bump to their 4-3 record this season. As for Topsail, they are on an 11-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-7.

Coincidentally, Laney and Topsail will both be playing Hoggard the next time they take the field. The Pirates will host the Vikings at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, while the Buccaneers will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on the 17th.
