The Northwest Cabarrus Trojans will venture away from home to challenge the Lake Norman Charter Knights at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Northwest Cabarrus is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.7 runs per game this season.
On Tuesday, Northwest Cabarrus came up short against Concord and fell 6-3.
Haylee Ellis put in work while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits. Ellis was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one triple and one RBI.
Ellis wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kinsley Jung, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Lake Norman Charter, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They came out on top against Greater Cabarrus S by a score of 6-1 on Tuesday. The Knights haven't had any issues with the Stallions recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Like Northwest Cabarrus, Lake Norman Charter also got a great game from a two-way player: Morgan Gadd. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over seven innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Gadd has posted since back in March. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Quinn Clark, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Silvy Schild was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.
Lake Norman Charter pushed their record up to 6-11 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games. As for Northwest Cabarrus, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-9 record this season.
Northwest Cabarrus came out on top in a nail-biter against Lake Norman Charter in their previous meeting back in March, sneaking past 2-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Trojans since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
