Basketball Recap: Mateo Valencia's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Rocky Mountain over Windsor

Rocky Mountain was the 80-76 winner over Windsor when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. The Rocky Mountain Lobos took a 64-49 bruising from the Windsor Wizards on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, the Lobos can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 95th, while the Wizards are ranked 32nd).

Rocky Mountain's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mateo Valencia, who posted nine points. Valencia is also on a roll when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 40% in the last three games he's played. Peyton Matkin was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Windsor's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from John Backhaus, who dropped a double-double with 20 points and 14 rebounds. That's the most points Backhaus has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Tadese Keyworth, who went 7-for-11 to rack up 17 points.

Rocky Mountain's defeat dropped their record down to 11-11. As for Windsor, their win was their 17th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 17-5.

Rocky Mountain didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 60-55 victory against Fossil Ridge on the 20th. As for Windsor, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 60-53 loss against Loveland on the 20th.
