Softball Recap: HCYA Wins Going Away Against Texas City

HCYA lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Texas City, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Friday's game. HCYA blew past Texas City 15-5 on Friday. The result was nothing new for HCYA, who have now won 13 matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Haley Hodgson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on ten hits. What's more, she posted four strikeouts, the most she's had since back in February.

On the hitting side, HCYA let Sarah Horne and Kiran Kyham run wild. Horne scored four runs while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances, while Kyham went 2-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Kyham has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last six times she's played. Another player making a difference was Kaden Richardson, who went 2-for-5 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base.

They weren't the only ones working in the hit department: HCYA kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

HCYA has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-5-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.6 runs over those games. Texas City's defeat dropped their record down to 10-6-1.

HCYA didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 3-3 tie against Fort Bend Christian Academy on the 18th. As for Texas City, they have also already played their next match, a 14-4 loss against Santa Fe on the 18th.
