Baseball Recap: Gilman Gets the Win

While Gilman didn't have the best season last year (they finished 4-13), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They had just enough and edged out the Stanley-Boyd Orioles 2-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Pirates have posted since April 12, 2024.

Dawson Robinson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on seven hits and racked up six Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Connor Nichols was excellent, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-2. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Talyn Podolak, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Gilman pushed their record up to 5-1 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Stanley-Boyd, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-4.

When Gilman and Stanley-Boyd next hit the field, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. The Pirates will try to stop Spencer's four-game winning streak when they meet at 5:00 p.m. on the 22nd. Meanwhile, Stanley-Boyd will take on Bloomer and their four-game winning streak at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
