Softball Recap: Marshall Comes Up Short

Marshall dropped down to 8-5 on Saturday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Bonduel Bears by a score of 2-1. If the Cardinals were looking for revenge after losing 2-1 to the Bears when the teams met back in May of 2025, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Kennedy Weisensel put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over 6.1 innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one run and one double.

Weisensel wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Carly Checky, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

As for Bonduel, the win was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record up to 14-1. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 9 runs.

On Bonduel's side, Emery Thompson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up nine Ks.

Coming up, Marshall will take on Lodi at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Cardinals 2.3, the Blue Devils 3.1) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Bonduel, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 10-7 victory against Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah on the 9th.
