Baseball Recap: Gateway's Luck Changes for the Better on Tuesday

Gateway's game on Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. They came out on top against the International Jaguars by a score of 10-5. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Gators considering their one-run performance the matchup before.

Luca Velasquez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Those 13 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Casey Volker, who went 3-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. He has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last seven times he's played. Diego Tatum also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Gateway moved to 2-9 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for International, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-9.

Gateway will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Jaguars: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.
