Basketball Recap: Florida Christian Comes Up Short

The Florida Christian Patriots came up short against the True North Classical Academy Titans on Thursday, falling 45-22. While losing is never fun, the Patriots can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 435th, while the Titans are ranked 200th).

Leah Perez was Florida Christian's leading scorer, having posted 14 points. Kianny Gil held things down on the boards with eight rebounds. She took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with four assists.

True North Classical Academy's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ellie Perez, who went 8 of 16 on her way to 17 points. That makes it five consecutive games in which Perez has scored at least a third of True North Classical Academy's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaelyn Montero, who posted six points along with 11 rebounds and eight steals.

Florida Christian's defeat was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-5. As for True North Classical Academy, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 5-0.

Florida Christian has already played their next match, a 67-17 loss against Keys Gate on the 17th. As for True North Classical Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 40-35 win against Somerset Academy (Silver Palms) on the 17th.
