Softball Recap: North Marion Takes a Loss

North Marion had lost three straight on the road, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 6-11 to make it four. They came up short against the Brooke Bruins, falling 10-1. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bruins this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 6-0 on Saturday.

As for Brooke, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 4-17. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games.

For Brooke's part, Gabby Hornick spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits. Hornick has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Brooke got a massive performance out of Emilee McKinney, who went 4-for-5 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. That's the most hits McKinney has posted over her last 11 matches. Another player making a difference was Jazymn Wood, who went 3-for-5 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.

Coming up, North Marion will challenge Philip Barbour at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Huskies' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Colts have averaged an impressive 6.5 runs per game this season. As for Brooke, they will square off against East Liverpool at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Bruins are facing the Potters at the right time seeing as the Potters are stuck on an 18-game losing streak.
