Preview: Vianney Golden Griffins vs. Marquette Mustangs
The Vianney Golden Griffins will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Marquette Mustangs at 6:45 p.m. One thing working in Vianney's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last five matches.
Vianney is ranked highly in their home state, and on Saturday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of Collinsville. The match between both teams wasn't particularly close, with Vianney falling 71-56. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Meanwhile, Marquette rang in the new year with a 53-44 victory over McCluer last Friday. Given Marquette's advantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 157th, while McCluer is ranked 315th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Vianney's defeat dropped their record down to 12-3. As for Marquette, the win got them back to even at 4-4.
Vianney lost to Marquette at home by a decisive 68-51 margin in their previous matchup back in January of 2023. Can Vianney avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
