Softball Recap: Liberty Snags Sixth Victory in Last Seven Games

The Liberty Bison earned a 5-2 win over the Yucaipa Thunderbirds on Thursday. That's two games straight that the Bison have won by exactly three runs.

Brooklyn Abeyta spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Jolie Tompkins was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Julianna Larson was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

Tompkins wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Liberty kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive games.

Liberty has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games. This is the second loss in a row for Yucaipa and nudges their season record down to 8-6.

Liberty wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 17-3 win against Heritage on the 25th. As for Yucaipa, they have also already played their next game, a 13-3 defeat against Centennial on the 26th.
