Baseball Game Preview: Faith Academy Rams vs. Opp Bobcats

The Faith Academy Rams will face off against the Opp Bobcats at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (Faith Academy 2.9, Opp 4) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Faith Academy is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another highly-ranked state team: Madison Central, who was ranked 21st in their home state at the time (Faith Academy was ranked 19th). Faith Academy fell just short of Madison Central by a score of 8-7 on Tuesday. One positive for the Rams, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.

Cooper Smith was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-4. Those runs were his first of the season.

Meanwhile, Opp has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging four runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Monday. They skirted past Pike Liberal Arts 11-10. Winning may never get old, but the Bobcats sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.

Opp's win was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Faith Academy, with the loss, they broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 7-3.
