Baseball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Avon Park

Avon Park put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They put the hurt on the Lake Placid Dragons with a sharp 12-1 win. That looming 12-1 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Red Devils yet this season.

Jace King was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in March of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring four runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in hits (three).

In other batting news, Eric Harrison was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, seven RBI, and three runs. Those seven RBI gave him a new career-high. Maddox Pollitt also deserves some recognition as he hit his first hits of the season.

Avon Park always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .533. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Avon Park pushed their record up to 4-0 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.2 runs over those games. As for Lake Placid, they are on a seven-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-6.

Looking ahead, Avon Park will look to defend their home field on Friday against Frostproof at 7:30 p.m. As for Lake Placid, they will be taking part in a tournament against Hardee at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Hardee's pitching crew has only allowed 2.8 runs per game this season, so Lake Placid's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
