Volleyball Preview: Upland Highlanders/Scots vs. St. Lucy's Regents
Upland and St. Lucy are an even 5-5 against one another since September of 2018, but not for long. The Upland Highlanders/Scots will head out to take on the St. Lucy's Regents at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Upland will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
Upland will bounce into Monday's match after beating Rancho Cucamonga, who they hadn't topped in nine consecutive meetings. Upland blew past Rancho Cucamonga 3-0 on Wednesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Highlanders/Scots have posted since September 18th.
Upland walked away with the win (and looked especially good in the second set). The match finished with set scores of 25-18, 25-10, 25-18.
Upland's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Addison Contreras, who had 19 digs, and Sydney Ryan, who had eight digs and two aces. Contreras is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 11 or more in the last six games she's played.
Upland was lethal from the service line and finished the game with ten aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least seven aces in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, St. Lucy's was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They lost 3-0 to Etiwanda.
St. Lucy's was not held off the scoreboard, but that almost wasn't the case: they kept the second set very close. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-11, 25-22, 25-10.
Upland has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season. As for St. Lucy's, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-18.
