Basketball Recap: Barnesville Takes a Loss

Barnesville was the 43-39 winner over Caldwell when they last played one another back in January of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Barnesville Shamrocks took a 65-53 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Caldwell Redskins on Monday. While losing is never fun, the Shamrocks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 559th, while the Redskins are ranked 74th).

Carter Wheeldin was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 18 points and 12 boards for Caldwell. Wheeldin has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 13 times he's played. Another player making a difference was Dylan Schott, who went 6 of 10 en route to 18 points.

Barnesville dropped their record down to 3-7 with the loss, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Caldwell, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 7-0.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Barnesville will face off against River at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Barnesville is facing River at the right time seeing as River is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Caldwell, they will challenge Fort Frye at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Caldwell is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.6 points per game this season.
