Basketball Recap: West Marshall Trojans vs. Perry Bluejays
The West Marshall Trojans's game last Thursday was a tough loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They came out on top against Perry by a score of 57-49. For West Marshall, this counts as revenge for the 61-52 defeat the Bluejays walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2023.
Perry lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Zander Mahler, who scored 14 points along with four steals. Mahler has been hot recently, having posted four or more steals the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Geren Kenney, who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine rebounds.
West Marshall's victory bumped their record up to 5-12. As for Perry, they dropped their record down to 6-12 with that defeat, which was their third straight on the road.
West Marshall will stay at home for another game and welcome the Wildcats on February 5th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Iowa (Carlisle is ranked 241st, while the Trojans are ranked 238th). As for Perry, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the Rams at 2:30 p.m. on February 3rd. Greene County has now lost eight straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 19.
