After a string of four wins, Hawthorne Math & Science Academy's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Rio Hondo Prep Kares.

While Hawthorne Math & Science Academy ultimately came up short, they didn't go down without a fight: they scored at least 18 points in every set they played. The match finished with set scores of 25-21, 22-25, 25-18, 25-21.

Hawthorne Math & Science Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 14-7. As for Rio Hondo Prep, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-11 record this season.
