Basketball Recap: Kegan Bates' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Labette County over Silver Lake

Labette County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They lost 88-65 to the Silver Lake Eagles. While losing is never fun, the Grizzlies can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 265th, while the Eagles are ranked 53rd).

Labette County's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kegan Bates, who went 6 for 9 on his way to 13 points and seven assists. The dominant performance gave Bates a new career-high in assists. Barrett Hestand was another key player, going 5 of 12 en route to 14 points.

Labette County's loss dropped their record down to 3-6. As for Silver Lake, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-1.

Labette County wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 65-62 defeat against Girard on the 24th. Silver Lake has also already played their next match, a 97-88 victory against Burlington on the 24th.
