Baseball Recap: Maryville Comes Up Short

Maryville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat. They took a 9-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Chillicothe Hornets. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Hornets this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 9-4 two weeks ago.

Maryville saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jackson Wilmes, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. The Spoofhounds are 2-1 when Wilmes posts two or more runs, but 9-16 otherwise. Canon Creason was another, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Maryville's loss dropped their record down to 11-17. As for Chillicothe, their victory bumped their record up to 17-7.

Maryville and Chillicothe should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Missouri Rankings. The Spoofhounds will challenge North Nodaway at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank advantage (230 vs. 510). Meanwhile, Chillicothe (ranked 55th) will meet Trenton (ranked 297th) at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
