SouthWest Edgecombe won the last time they faced Ayden - Grifton and things went their way on Thursday too. The Cougars sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-5 victory over the Chargers.

Mackenzie Rogers spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up 14 Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one walk in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Carlyn Hodge, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Iyera Winstead, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

SouthWest Edgecombe has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.6 runs over those games. As for Ayden - Grifton, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-9.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. SouthWest Edgecombe will welcome Washington at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Ayden - Grifton, they will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against C.B. Aycock at 7:00 p.m.
