The Somonauk Bobcats will venture away from home to face off against the Newman Central Catholic Comets at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Somonauk is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.
Somonauk barely beat Amboy the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Bobcats put the hurt on the Clippers with a sharp 11-1 win on Friday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Bobcats considering their one-run performance the match before.
Kaydence Eade made a splash while hitting and pitching. She tossed six innings while giving up just one earned run off seven hits. Eade was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kennedy Barshinger, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Ady Werner, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Somonauk always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Marquette hit Newman Central Catholic with a 11-run second inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Comets came up short against the Crusaders, falling 15-1. Having soared to a lofty 24 runs in the game before, the Comets couldn't push the score so high this time.
Newman Central Catholic saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lucy Oetting, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.
This is the second loss in a row for Newman Central Catholic and nudges their season record down to 9-17. Those defeats can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.5 runs over those games. As for Somonauk, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-13.
Somonauk suffered a grim 18-4 defeat to Newman Central Catholic when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Bobcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
