Softball Recap: Newport Comes Up Short

Newport couldn't beat Philomath on Thursday even though they stacked four runs on them in the sixth inning. The Cubs fell just short of the Warriors by a score of 9-8. The Cubs' loss continues a trend for the squad, making it seven in a row.

Emry Belloni made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Ivy Ruddiman, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one stolen base.

Newport's record now sits at 3-14. As for Philomath, the victory got them back to even at 8-8.

Looking ahead, Newport will venture away from home to challenge Cascade at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Cubs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cougars have averaged an impressive 12.8 runs per game this season. As for Philomath, they will be playing at home against North Marion at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
