Baseball Game Preview: Genesee Bulldogs vs. Colton Wildcats

The Genesee Bulldogs will venture away from home to take on the Colton Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Genesee has given up an average of 9.7 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Genesee came into their game on Saturday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against Potlatch, falling 16-5. The Bulldogs have struggled against the Loggers recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meeting.

Vince Crowley made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI. Ryder Uhlenkott also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Colton). They put the hurt on St. John-Endicott/LaCrosse with a sharp 19-9 victory on Saturday. That's two games straight that the Wildcats have won by exactly ten runs.

Tanner Baerlocher was a standout: he scored four runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. Brennan Schlee was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

Colton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .590. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.

The win got Colton back to even at 2-2. As for Genesee, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-4-2.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Genesee has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 6.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Colton struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.

Genesee took their victory against Colton in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 15-5 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bulldogs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
