Gross Catholic has won three straight games at home, while Bennington has won three straight on the road dating back to last season, but those streaks won't matter much on Tuesday. The Cougars will host the Badgers at 4:30 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Gross Catholic 2.6, Bennington 2.1) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Gross Catholic will bounce into Tuesday's match after beating Pius X, who they had gone 1-6 against in their seven prior meetings. The Cougars never let the Thunderbolts get on the board and left with a 3-0 win on Saturday.
Kayo Rempe tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over 6.2 innings pitched.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Maddux Villamonte, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Robbie Brennan, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Bennington faced Waverly in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. The Badgers blew past the Vikings 12-2. The result was nothing new for the Badgers, who have now won three games by ten runs or more so far this season.
Brandt Schmidt spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits and racked up nine Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Carson Kortan was incredible, going 2-for-4 with five RBI, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Essink, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.
Bennington was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Waverly only posted a batting average of .174.
Bennington's victory bumped their record up to 10-0. As for Gross Catholic, their win bumped their record up to 7-1.
