Baseball Recap: Bangor Takes a Loss

Bangor extended their losing streak to five on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 10-11 in the process. They came up short against the Galesburg-Augusta Rams, falling 15-1. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Vikings of the 20-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2022.

Wyatt Schnieder made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run. Bangor is 6-1 when Schnieder posts two or more stolen bases, but 4-10 otherwise.

As for Galesburg-Augusta, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 10-5. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by eight runs or more this season.

On Galesburg-Augusta's side, Alex Krugh made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out seven batters over 2.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit (and only one walk). Krugh has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Ethan Gibson was incredible, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Ashton Matrau was another key player, going 2-for-5 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Bangor will venture away from home to challenge Lawrence at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Tigers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 15.6 runs per game on average), something the Vikings will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Galesburg-Augusta, they will challenge Saugatuck at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
