Valmeyer extended their losing streak to five on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 1-5 in the process. They fell 10-6 to the New Athens Yellow Jackets. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Yellow Jackets this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-0 on Tuesday.

Madisyn Huddleston put in work no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 16 batters over seven innings while giving up seven earned (and three unearned) runs off 12 hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That double marked the first that she has hit this season.
In other batting news, Avery Proffer made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases and three RBI. Those stolen bases marked the first that she has snagged this season. Another player making a difference was Ally Coats, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
As for New Athens, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. While they didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-19), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Like Valmeyer, New Athens also got a great game from a two-way player: Mallory Kohnen. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. Those 13 strikeouts gave Kohnen a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, Morgan Schatte was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. Jamie Wilson was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
