Basketball Recap: Summit Extends Winning Streak to Three

Summit had already won two in a row and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They came out on top against the Battle Mountain Huskies by a score of 47-38. The score was all tied up 21-21 at the break, but the Tigers were the better team in the second half.

Summit got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Katelynn Smith out in front who posted 14 points and five rebounds. The dominant performance gave Smith a new career-high in points. Avery Eytel was another key player, putting up five points along with 11 boards and three steals.

Summit smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 16 consecutive games.

Battle Mountain's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Izzy Kovacik, who went 5 of 8 en route to 14 points and five rebounds. Kovacik continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Elle Glendining, who went 5 for 11 to rack up 10 points and six boards.

Summit's record now sits at 11-8. As for Battle Mountain, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-8.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Moffat County the next time they take the court. Summit will host Moffat County at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, while Battle Mountain will head out to face them at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
