Baseball Recap: Newcomerstown Comes Up Short

If Newcomerstown was feeling good fresh off their 12-1 takedown of Malvern on Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Trojans fell just short of the River View Black Bears by a score of 5-3 on Friday. The Trojans were not able to make up for their defeat to the Black Bears from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.

Leroy Raber was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, he tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one run and one double.

Raber wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Tanner Smith, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

The loss snapped Newcomerstown's winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 10-4 record. As for River View, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 9-7.

Newcomerstown has already played their next game, a 5-2 victory against Conotton Valley on the 28th. As for River View, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, an 8-7 win against Strasburg-Franklin on the 26th.
