Baseball Game Preview: Surry Central Golden Eagles vs. East Surry Cardinals

Surry Central is 2-8 against East Surry since June of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Golden Eagles will face off against the Cardinals at 7:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Surry Central has three straight wins, East Surry has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

On Thursday, Surry Central earned an 8-4 victory over North Wilkes.

Jackson Wilmoth was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out ten over 5.2 innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs and three RBI while going 2-for-4. He is on a roll when it comes to RBI, as he's now brought in three or more in each of the last three games he's played.

Wilmoth wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Lucas Johnson, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. Caleb Cruise also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Surry Central lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, East Surry didn't have quite enough to beat Forbush on Thursday and fell 4-3. That's two games in a row now that the Cardinals have lost by just one run.

Surry Central's record is now 16-6. As for East Surry, their loss dropped their record down to 11-10.

Surry Central skirted past East Surry 10-9 in their previous matchup last Thursday. Do the Golden Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cardinals turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
