Football Recap: Weslaco Piles Up the Points Against Pharr-San Juan-Alamo

You can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Weslaco's strategy against Pharr-San Juan-Alamo on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Panthers blew the Bears out of the water with a 44-0 final score. Given the Panthers' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 399th, while the Bears are ranked 902nd) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Leading Weslaco to victory were Chris Luna and David Garcia. Luna threw for 130 yards and a pair of TDs, while Garcia gained 39 total yards and three touchdowns.

Weslaco's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB ten times. It was truly a group effort as Jacob Hinojosa, Jacob Villa, and Pablo Villarreal picked up two apiece. Hinojosa also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with seven.

The victory (which was Weslaco's fourth in a row) raised their record to 6-2. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 41.3 points over those games. As for Pharr-San Juan-Alamo, they are on a nine-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-8.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Weslaco is set to challenge their familiar foe Edinburg at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Pharr-San Juan-Alamo will square off against rival Edinburg North at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
