Basketball Game Preview: Pillow Academy Mustangs vs. Leake Academy Rebels

The Pillow Academy Mustangs and the Leake Academy Rebels will face off at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday without much rest, having both just played. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Pillow Academy heads in on the heels of a playoff match on Friday. They took a 67-56 hit to the loss column at the hands of East Rankin Academy. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 29th, while the Patriots are ranked second).

Meanwhile, Leake Academy was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Friday as they fell 61-57 to Parklane Academy.

Pillow Academy will have to contain Marleigh Myers as she made an impact in Leake Academy's last game. She made all 7 shots she took to post 15 points and five rebounds. Myers is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as she's posted one of at least 63% in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Sarah Prince, who went 5-for-10 en route to 13 points.

Even though they lost, Leake Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in three consecutive contests.

Pillow Academy's loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 21-8. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 29.3 points over those games. As for Leake Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 32-4.
