Baseball Recap: Alameda Comes Up Short

Alameda had lost five straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 9-12 to make it six. They came up short against the Bishop O'Dowd Dragons, falling 11-5. The Hornets were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Dragons earlier this season, when they won 6-3.

As for Bishop O'Dowd, the victory snapped their losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 9-12-1 record. They not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since April 3rd (when they won 8-0).

For Bishop O'Dowd's part, Duncan Russell looked comfortable as he struck out nine batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Russell has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Bishop O'Dowd got a massive performance out of John Teti, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles. Teti is becoming a predictor of the Dragons' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-1 (and 5-11-1 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Dimitri Williams, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

Coming up, Alameda will head out to square off against Newark Memorial at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Hornets' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cougars have averaged an impressive 6.8 runs per game this season. As for Bishop O'Dowd, they will challenge Piedmont at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Highlanders' pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so the Dragons' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
