Football Recap: Apollo Wins Going Away Against Willow Canyon

There's no place like home for Apollo, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They took down the Willow Canyon Wildcats 42-23 on Friday. That 19 point margin sets a new team best for the Hawks this season.

Apollo's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Thomas Williams, who threw for 280 yards and four touchdowns. Williams' passing game has become a key predictor of the Hawks' success: the team is 3-1 when his passer rating is 110 or higher, but only 0-6 otherwise. Damonie Daniels was Williams' top target, picking up 86 receiving yards and one score.

Apollo didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Willow Canyon to a completion percentage of just 45.8%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from four players: Deandre Crum, Elbert Bizzle, Hunter Booth, and Jayden Gonzales, who each logged one passes deflected. Apollo wasn't nearly as limited: they posted one of 62.5%.

Apollo didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. Bizzle and Elijah White each grabbed an interception.

Several Wildcats players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Aiden Fuerstenberg, who picked up 86 receiving yards and one TD.

Apollo's record now sits at 3-7. As for Willow Canyon, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-7.

As of now, neither Apollo nor the Wildcats have any future games scheduled.
