The Saranac Spartans will venture away from home to take on the Rice Memorial Green Knights at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Rice Memorial will be up against a hot Saranac squad: the team just extended their winning streak to five. The Spartans put the hurt on Ticonderoga with a sharp 12-4 victory on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Spartans, who have now won three contests by eight runs or more so far this season.
Adrian Barnes was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. Barnes was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. What's more, he posted three hits, the most he's had since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Robbie Squier, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Zack Lucia also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Saranac kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Rice Memorial got the win against Burr & Burton on Tuesday by a conclusive 17-1. The Green Knights have beaten the Bulldogs the last five times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Bulldogs has come to flipping the script.
Like Saranac, Rice Memorial also got a great game from a two-way player: Landon Merchant. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Merchant was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Rice Memorial let Coleton Merchant and Oliver Quong run wild. Merchant scored four runs while going 2-for-3, while Quong scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Holden Mulvey was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-1.
Saranac's record now sits at 5-0. As for Rice Memorial, their record is now 1-0.
Saranac came out on top in a nail-biter against Rice Memorial in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, sneaking past 9-7. Will the Spartans repeat their success, or do the Green Knights have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
