Basketball Game Preview: New Braunfels Unicorns vs. Alamo Heights Mules

The New Braunfels Unicorns will head out to square off against the Alamo Heights Mules at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. New Braunfels knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven matchups -- so hopefully Alamo Heights likes a good challenge.

On Tuesday, New Braunfels was able to grind out a solid victory over Boerne-Champion, taking the game 66-59.

Alamo Heights has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They took a 59-49 hit to the loss column at the hands of Pieper on Tuesday.

New Braunfels will need focus on slowing down William Whittingstall, one of several Alamo Heights players who made an impact when they last played. He posted nine points. Another player making a difference was Gunnar Jones, who went 5 for 7 on his way to 11 points.

New Braunfels has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a massive bump to their 21-11 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.0 points per game. As for Alamo Heights, their defeat dropped their record down to 23-7.

Things could have been worse for New Braunfels, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 62-48 loss to Alamo Heights when the teams last played back in December of 2024. Can New Braunfels avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
