Basketball Recap: Cholla Drops Highest Score of Season Against Safford

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Cholla). They blew past the Safford Bulldogs, posting a 110-39 victory. The Chargers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven matchups by 21 points or more this season.

Cholla had a senior duo take command as Michael Payne almost dropped a triple-double on 36 points, nine rebounds, and nine assists and Cyree Jenkins went 10 for 12 on his way to 24 points in addition to six boards and four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Payne has scored all season. Jaden Standifer was another key player, going 7 of 9 en route to 14 points and five boards.

The win (which was Cholla's seventh in a row) raised their record to 16-3. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 86.4 points per game. As for Safford, they dropped their record down to 7-17 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Cholla will venture away from home to take on Sahuarita at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Sahuarita will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Cholla surely won't give up without a fight. As for Safford, they will be playing at home against Tanque Verde at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Safford is facing Tanque Verde at the right time seeing as Tanque Verde is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
