Soccer Game Preview: Alexander vs. Pope

The Alexander Cougars will challenge the Pope Greyhounds on Monday. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Alexander sitting on five straight wins and Pope on four.

Alexander is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Houston County as they made off with a 4-1 victory. Considering Alexander have won 11 contests by more than two goals this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Zero must be Pope's lucky number: they beat McIntosh with that score not once but twice on Tuesday. While the 0-0 score might suggest a draw, it was the Greyhounds who were credited with the win. The final result isn't all the surprising considering their considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia soccer rankings (they are ranked sixth, while McIntosh are ranked 65th).

Alexander's victory bumped their record up to 16-4. As for Pope, their win bumped their record up to 17-3.

Alexander suffered a grim 4-0 defeat to Pope in their previous matchup back in May of 2019. Can the Cougars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
