Basketball Recap: Havelock Takes a Loss

Havelock played a tough match on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They took a blow against the Jacksonville Cardinals, falling 60-24. While losing is never fun, the Rams can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 413th, while the Cardinals are ranked 75th).

Havelock's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was O'Lora Krupey, who posted four points and five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Timayah Brown, who earned four points.

Kelize Velez-Galan continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Jacksonville, putting up 24 points along with six rebounds and five assists. The game was Velez-Galan's seventh in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Izabella Hernandez, who had 12 points.

Havelock has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-7 record this season. As for Jacksonville, their win was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-3.

Havelock didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 42-40 defeat against Pamlico County on the 8th. As for Jacksonville, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 58-51 victory against D.H. Conley on the 9th.
