Baseball Game Preview: Canyon Comanches vs. Esperanza Aztecs

Canyon has gone 8-2 against Esperanza recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Comanches will welcome the Aztecs at 3:15 p.m. Neither of those teams managed to put together many runs in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.

Canyon took an eight-run loss the last time they faced off against Crean Lutheran, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Comanches sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 victory over the Saints on Thursday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Kemuel Zhang spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on six hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Canyon is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 7-9 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Canyon's win was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Blake Semanie, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

Meanwhile, Esperanza lost 8-2 to Sonora on Friday.

Canyon now has a winning record of 10-9. As for Esperanza, their defeat dropped their record down to an identical 10-9.

Canyon beat Esperanza 9-4 when the teams last played back in April of 2025. Do the Comanches have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Aztecs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
