Baseball Game Preview: Port Huron Red Hawks vs. Marine City Mariners

The Port Huron Red Hawks will head out to face off against the Marine City Mariners at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Port Huron has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the game with six straight defeats, while Marine City will come in with seven straight wins.

Port Huron lost 13-1 to Oxford on Saturday.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Marine City). Everything went their way against Roseville on Thursday as they made off with a 24-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Mariners, who have now won nine matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Tucker Volkman made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Volkman was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with four runs and one RBI. Those four runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Marine City got a massive performance out of Paul Muscat, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and two runs. Muscat is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Cooper Letson, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base.

Marine City was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .600. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Marine City pushed their record up to 16-7 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Port Huron, their loss dropped their record down to 4-15.
