Baseball Game Preview: Charlotte Christian Knights vs. South Mecklenburg Sabres

The Charlotte Christian Knights will head out on the road to challenge the South Mecklenburg Sabres at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Charlotte Christian sitting on seven straight wins and South Mecklenburg on three.

Charlotte Christian proved they can win big on Saturday (they won by eight) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Hough 2-1.

Wade Thompson looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Charlotte Christian's win was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Owen Farrell, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Farrell has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last six times he's played.

Meanwhile, South Mecklenburg got themselves on the board against Hopewell on Saturday, but Hopewell never followed suit. They came out on top against the Titans by a score of 4-0.

Reese Guertin was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 11 over 5.2 innings pitched. Those 11 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases.

South Mecklenburg pushed their record up to 14-7 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Charlotte Christian, their record now sits at 20-4.

Charlotte Christian took their victory against South Mecklenburg in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 8-1 score. Will the Knights repeat their success, or do the Sabres have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
