Recap: Illiana Christian Vikings vs. Griffith Panthers
The Illiana Christian Vikings had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Griffith on Tuesday and snuck past 39-36. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Illiana Christian also won the last time the pair played back in November of 2022.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Illiana Christian to victory, but perhaps none more so than Cheyenne DeJong, who scored 9 points along with 14 rebounds. DeJong hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for three straight games. Ella Olthof was another key contributor, scoring 8 points along with 6 rebounds and 4 steals.
Despite the defeat, Griffith had strong showings from Morgan Von ogden, who scored 14 points, and Madyson Ladendorf, who scored 14 points along with 3 steals. Ladendorf scored a full 38.9% of Griffith's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Even though they lost, Griffith were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Illiana Christian only pulled down 24.
Illiana Christian's victory bumped their record up to 2-4. As for Griffith, they bumped their record down to 0-5 with that loss, which was their fourth straight on the road.
Illiana Christian will square off against Heritage Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Heritage Christian focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 28 on Saturday. As for Griffith, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Lake Station Edison at 7:00 p.m. on November 30th. Lake Station Edison will be coming into the game with an undefeated record on the line.
